SAFE™

SAFE™ (The Salmon Application Framework for eCommerce) is a series of pre-configured, reusable and customisable eCommerce components which combine with a mature eCommerce project delivery methodology. SAFE™ is fully developed, tested and pre-configured and extends IBM’s Websphere Commerce™ platform, enabling the rapid delivery of a production-ready enterprise class solution.

SAFE – Benefits over traditional eCommerce solution development

When applied, SAFE™ significantly lowers the risks inherent in launching a new eCommerce capability, or replacing an existing eCommerce platform.  The primary benefit of the solution is that SAFE™ allows businesses to start small and scale quickly; eliminating the worry of having to “rip and replace” expensive systems that are unable to cope with increasing levels of traffic and customer demand.

In the interests of customer choice and commercial flexibility, SAFE™ can be implemented in three ways: either as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, as a starter store with rich 'out-of-the-box' capabilities, or as a framework to support a fully bespoke and extended eCommerce implementation.

SAFE™ – Out of the Box

Using SAFE™, Salmon is able to implement a fully functioning eCommerce solution in a fraction of the time taken in traditional eCommerce development projects.  For instance our eCommerce Platform replacement project for Regatta was implemented in just 35 days.

In the first instance SAFE™ is implemented as an entry level store to get a business’ eCommerce solution operational fast. Typically, SAFE™ includes 80-100% of a business' requirements needed for an online B2C solution 'out-of-the-box'; allowing a business to start selling online sooner.  More specialised requirements such as multi-channel or cross channel readiness, can be delivered after go-live or as part of an extended project. The Salmon approach allows a company to concentrate on its own business operations, rather than its technical capabilities.

Production Ready

SAFE™ is production ready, meaning there is no development of core functionality required, unlike traditional bespoke eCommerce development projects.  Salmon is experienced providing integration activities to back-end systems – such as order process and payment gateway - and delivering front-end designs.
