Salmon Support Advantage Africa

Salmon the IT Services and Consulting Company, today announced their continued partnership with Advantage Africa, a charity that supports inspirational people and their invaluable work among people disadvantaged by poverty, disability and HIV/AIDS in East Africa.

Andrew Betts from Advantage Africa said, 'Salmon's partnership with Advantage Africa has helped transform the lives of over 12,000 disadvantaged people. Their generous donations of over £65,000, during the last 16 months, has helped turn hardship into opportunity and hope.'

Funds provided by Salmon have supported a number of activities including:

  • Establishing special units within primary schools for disabled children, where they learn basic life skills including speech, personal hygiene, farming and household tasks, growing their social abilities and friendships.
  • Supporting teacher training, staff salaries, the installation of electricity and the construction of bathrooms and dining halls within the special units.
  • Establishing workshops for making and repairing crutches, seats, callipers and wheelchairs.
  • Educating children and adults about HIV in schools, churches and marketplaces using entertaining and interactive drama, poetry, music and sport.
  • Undertaking counselling, HIV testing and training for village midwives, regularly reaching a thousand people each month with their life-saving services.
  • Providing children orphaned by AIDS with a nutritional meal each day, health services and a village clinic.
