Press Release
Salmon Expands SOA Practice - New services designed to help companies reap the benefits of SOA implementation.
16 April 2007
As part of the expansion, the company has additionally appointed John Millington to head the practice as Lead Architect.
Salmon's expanded SOA practice and service offerings are designed to provide customers with customised SOA research, recommendations, roadmaps and realisation services. These combined offerings form SR4, Salmon's SOA methodology.
SR4 is a full service and full life cycle offering spanning Facility (people, organisation), Product, Governance (management, control) and Methodology (methods, standards, procedures). Complementing SR4, Salmon is additionally announcing a new service directed at helping companies assess and increase their SOA maturity.
John Millington comments, "Many software and services suppliers provide simple web based tools to measure and benchmark SOA baselines. These tools are generic lead generation gimmicks that do little to help companies really understand SOA in the context of their specific business. Our SR4 methodology and maturity model genuinely helps organisations truly understand SOA and facilitates and manages IT change with SOA."
According to estimates made by global research firm Gartner, the market size of SOA was $450 million in 2005 and is expected to reach $18.4 billion by 2012**. This represents a pervasive shift rather than an incremental market opportunity.
John Millington brings strong leadership and first hand experience to Salmon's SOA consulting practice. He joins Salmon from Marsh Ltd a risk and insurance services firm, where he was a Vice President and Head of Web Architecture.
SOA expresses a perspective on IT architecture that defines the use of loosely coupled software services to support the requirements of business processes. Resources on a network in an SOA environment are made available as independent services that can be accessed without knowledge of their underlying platform implementation.
