Press Release
Argos ranked 2nd most popular online retailer in the UK
4 August 2007
Argos's website, developed with and supported
by Salmon has been ranked as the second most popular website in the UK,
according to IMRG (Interactive Media in Retail Group) and their Hitwise
Hot Shops List* which ranks the top 50 UK e-retailers by number of
visits.
The most popular website during July was Amazon UK in first place, with
the Argos website in second place, followed by Tesco in third and
Play.com in fourth.
Jeff Leaver, Salmon's Chief Operations Officer said "We have been
working with Argos since 2002 and in this time we have developed and
enhanced their eCommerce website. We have provided around the clock,
service level based application support service and delivered many
ongoing enhancements. In addition, we have also worked with other Home
Retail Group brands including Homebase and Argos Financial Services. We
are extremely pleased to see Argos.co.uk being ranked so highly."
IMRG's CEO, James Roper, commented "Against a backdrop of huge growth
in online sales, up 80% on last year to 4+ billion pounds in July, the
stability of retailers' positions on the List is extraordinary, and
tells me two things: these market leaders are satisfying their
customers pretty well, and competitors are having little or no effect
on their progress. The really odd thing is that nothing about
e-retailing is static - the customer base, expectations, propositions,
technology - it's all evolving rapidly all the time. Beneath this
apparently serene and stable market is frantic activity keeping it so."
